Leadership

The responsibility of overseeing The Salvation Army's programs and services in Greater Chattanooga and Cleveland, Tennessee is invested in the Area Commander.

Major James D. Lawrence, Chattanooga’s Area Commander, serves as the Chief Executive Officer overseeing a complex operation that includes seven Salvation Army officers and a staff of more than seventy employees working at seven local sites.

Major Beverly Lawrence is the Coordinator of Women’s Ministries in the Chattanooga Area Command. Together, the Lawrences serve as the senior Corps officers of the Project 614 Corps, a nontraditional worship center. Project 614 focuses on ministering to the homeless and those staying in The Salvation Army’s emergency shelters and transitional housing in the downtown Chattanooga area.

"They will REBUILD the ancient ruins and RESTORE the places long devastated; they will RENEW the ruined cities that have been devastated for generations."
— Isaiah 6:14

The Salvation Army in Chattanooga is privileged to partner with an important group of businesspersons, community leaders and concerned citizens who form the Advisory Board and the Women’s Auxiliary. The members of the Advisory Board serve on a variety of program and service committees. They help make key decisions for the local organization and participate in strategic planning to ensure The Salvation Army is successfully positioned to meet human needs in the name of Jesus Christ.
