Funding Our Year-Round Operations
When many people think about giving to The Salvation Army, they think of donating clothes and furniture they no longer use or need. We truly appreciate these donations. The vast majority of Salvation Army programs and services, however, must be funded by monetary donations.
Donors to The Salvation Army are informed individuals who give where it will do the most good.
The most visible way to make a donation is through The Salvation Army Red Kettle effort. Each year during the Holiday Season, bell ringers suddenly appear all over town. And after Christmas Eve they disappear just as quickly.
The kettle drive lasts only a few weeks, and gives concerned individuals the opportunity to drop coins or a few bills into the red kettle. Money raised through the kettle program helps fund the year-round operation of The Salvation Army’s ministries in Greater Chattanooga. Still this funding only provides about 5 percent of the annual budget.
Additional monetary donations are needed to help fund many other services including the homeless shelters, the Family Stores, after-school programs and emergency disaster assistance. These monies also support Christmas assistance programs such as Angel Tree which provides Christmas gifts for needy children and senior citizens in Chattanooga each year.
