Good Friday Worship Service – "Tenebrae"
7 pm at the 614 Corps. The Salvation Army on McCallie Avenue will host a "Tenebrae" service, meaning "darkness or shadows" in Latin. This is an ancient Good Friday service that reflects on the events surrounding the last week of Jesus' life and His death. The Salvation Army will celebrate Easter with its traditional Easter Sunrise Service at the National Cemetery at 1200 Bailey Avenue beside the flag pole overlooking beautiful downtown Chattanooga! For the last 36 years, The Salvation Army has partnered with the National Cemetery for the Easter Sunrise Service. All are invited to worship at 7:30 am as the sun rises over Chattanooga. National Donut Day
The first National Donut Day was established in Chicago in 1938 to raise money for people in need during the Great Depression. The holiday has since been celebrated on the first Friday in June as a way to commemorate the service of The Salvation Army's Doughnut Lassies and honor the memory of our soldiers. The donut has become synonymous with The Salvation Army's social services and continues to be a comfort food served by The Salvation Army to those in need during times of disaster.
