Salvation Army Earliest Requests for Heaters, Coats and Blankets
Chattanooga, TN – With below average temperatures, The Salvation Army is seeing earlier than ever requests for space heaters from those who have homes and requests for blankets, coats, hats and gloves from the homeless. "With the temperatures expected to be around the freezing point this week, the need is going to be even greater," states Area Commander Major Jim Lawrence. "We are asking the community to step forward like they have in the past to donate heaters, blankets and warm gloves and hats."
The ReCreate' Café, The Salvation Army's Homeless Day Center, one-of-its-kind in Chattanooga, sees between 100 and 150 homeless guests each day. Coffee, conversation, material assistance, and spiritual and emotional care are among the services provided at the Café. It is here that blankets and coats are handed out as well.
The Salvation Army is also making plans to open emergency shelter for families, women and children since the temperatures are plummeting. When temperatures go below thirty five degrees emergency shelter will open for homeless families.
All donations of goods are being accepted at The Salvation Army Family Stores in Chattanooga, Cleveland or Dalton or the main campus at 800 McCallie Avenue. Monetary donations can be mailed to The Salvation Army, 800 McCallie Avenue, Chattanooga, TN, 37403 or donated on line at CSArmy.org. For additional information please call 423-756-1023.
