Groups to Cooperate for Thanksgiving Day Celebration

Chattanooga, TN – Area organizations are teaming up again this year for Unity in the Community, A Thanksgiving Day Celebration, to help feed those in need.  The Thanksgiving Day event will take place at the First Tennessee Pavilion, located across from Finley Stadium at 1826 Carter Street, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.

The Salvation Army, Community Kitchen, The Union Gospel Mission, Brainerd Baptist Church, Forest Avenue United Methodist Church, North River Vineyard, First Baptist, and Southern Baptist Disaster Relief will be participating along with others and hundreds of volunteers.

Turkeys are already being prepared however the majority of the cooking will begin as early as 5:30 AM on Thanksgiving morning at the 1st Tennessee Pavilion.

"Guests are not your typical homeless guests this year. Families and singles who have homes have called requesting information. With the economy the way it is and with area layoffs, more are in need than ever before," states Major Jim Lawrence, Area Commander of the Salvation Army.
