Local Donors Carry Salvation Army Over the 2009 Red Kettle Goal!

Chattanooga, TN – The Chattanooga Salvation Army surpassed its $349,000 Red Kettle Goal for 2009 as Chattanooga-, Cleveland- and North Georgia-Area residents gave over-&-above gifts to the sound of ringing bells at the familiar Red Kettles throughout the region!

"The $384,846 we received is due to our community's great heart for giving and to the exemplary leadership of Chattanooga Mayor Ron Littlefield, our Campaign Chairman," said Major Jim Lawrence, Salvation Army Area Commander. "It's humbling to know so many friends stepped forward to give generously so the Chattanooga and Cleveland Salvation Army can continue to meet emergency needs into the New Year."

Major Lawrence went on to say, "While we were able to wrap up our Red Kettle Campaign on Christmas Eve, there are Salvation Army locations all over the country that are still ringing bells in order to meet their vitally important financial goals."

Money from the Red Kettles supports Salvation Army services throughout the greater community. Among other programs, the funds help offset still rising needs for emergency assistance through The Salvation Army's Social Service Ministry.

The Salvation Army provided Christmas assistance to 2,769 children and seniors through the 2009 Angel Tree Program. The Army and its Volunteers also delivered gifts to area nursing home residents and to many who are incarcerated. On Christmas Eve, approximately one hundred homeless persons enjoyed a "Christmas Eve Brunch" at the Army's Day Center for the Homeless on McCallie Avenue.

Year-end donations may still be mailed to The Salvation Army, 822 McCallie Avenue, 37403. Gifts can also be given online at www.CSArmy.org or by calling 1-800-Sal-Army.
