Chattanooga Salvation Army Asks Community to "Share the Warmth" by Donating New Heaters

Chattanooga, TN – As overnight temperatures in the Tennessee Valley remain below freezing, the Chattanooga Salvation Army reports an increase in the number of requests for heaters to fight the extreme cold. Salvation Army Social Services Director Geri Goodwin is asking the community to once again step forward and donate new heaters or give the funds to purchase heaters.

"Most of the calls are coming in from senior citizens on a fixed income, and the cold is especially life-threatening to them", said Ms. Goodwin. "We bought twelve new heaters at a discount yesterday, but we're calling those already on a waiting list, and the list is growing."

Ms. Goodwin went on to say a local business is selling new heaters to The Salvation Army at a discounted cost of thirty dollars. Besides heaters, or the money to purchase them, The Salvation Army is asking for the donation of blankets and cold weather clothing like hats, gloves, sweaters and coats in all sizes.

Social Services Director Geri Goodwin says the heaters, blankets, clothing and donations should be dropped off at The Salvation Army Administrative Offices at 822 McCallie Avenue, Chattanooga, 37403.

Money for heaters can also be given online at www.CSArmy.org or by calling 1-800-Sal-Army. All gifts are tax exempt.
