Dramatic Rescue from Flooded Nashville Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center
Chattanooga, TN – Eighty men were rescued by boat from The Salvation Army’s Nashville Adult Rehabilitation Center on Sunday. The men were in treatment for a number of afflictions including alcoholism and substance abuse.
“We didn’t think it was that serious, until we saw this wall of water rushing down the street,” said JaRon Britton, one of the program’s participants. When hope seemed lost, a rescue boat arrived and ferried the men to dry ground. Currently, the men are in Salvation Army shelters. Over half of the men would not let the waters interrupt their treatment and have opted for transfer to the Memphis Adult Rehabilitation Center for further therapy.
Even as the waters recede and lives are no longer in immediate jeopardy, victims are in need. Salvation Army mobile kitchens continue to feed residents. As of May 5th , 4,123 meals had been distributed. Nashville residents are also in need new hygiene products, underwear and household clean-up items.
Chattanoogans are invited to bring donations to the Chattanooga Market this Sunday from 11 Am until 4 PM. Donations will be shipped to those in need this Thursday. Monetary donations are also needed to support the recovery effort. Please visit www.csarmy.org or call 1-800-SAL-ARMY to donate.
