Chattanooga Salvation Army Thanks Community and Co-Sponsors as Flood Relief Collections Continue

Chattanooga, TN – The Chattanooga Salvation Army is thanking the community and its relief effort co-sponsors for their special assistance in donating items to support the continuing flood relief efforts in Nashville. The local Salvation Army Commander, Major Jim Lawrence, also reminds residents of Greater Chattanooga and Cleveland that it’s not too late to donate needed items.

Major Lawrence praised the extra-effort assistance of the local Citadel Broadcasting radio stations in encouraging residents to bring specially needed items to the Chattanooga Market on Sunday. “Kelley McCoy, Scott Chase and all the Citadel team made the collection a super success. Our fourteen foot truck will filled to overflowing Sunday.” Major Lawrence went on to say, “The practical concern of our local friends who gave so much in just a few hours was overwhelming.”

Major Jim Lawrence also thanks the management of the Chattanooga Market and of Covenant Transport for their exceptional assistance.

Donation collections will continue through Wednesday at the Salvation Army Family Thrift Stores in East Ridge, Cleveland and Ft. Oglethorpe from 10 AM to 5 PM each day. The stores are located at 4104 Ringgold Road in East Ridge, 669 17th Street in Cleveland and at 1809 Battlefield Parkway in Ft. Oglethorpe. The donations are being loaded at the Army’s East Ridge store into a tractor trailer provided by Covenant Transport. Covenant will deliver the supplies to Nashville on Thursday.

Items still needed include new socks, underwear, t-shirts, soap, shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste, feminine care products, toilet paper, mops, cleaning agents and trash bags. Bottled water is always a necessity.

Meanwhile, two Chattanooga-based Salvation Army Cadets, Sarah and Jason Quinn, have joined the response teams providing food, drink and emotional support to the flood victims at Nashville.

Monetary donations are also needed to support the recovery effort. To donate, go to www.csarmy.org or call 1-800-SAL-ARMY.
