The Salvation Army Offers Free Disaster Response Training
The Chattanooga Salvation Army will host free Emergency Disaster Services (EDS) training classes on Wednesday and Thursday July 14th and 15th. Classes will give volunteers the tools necessary to serve on a Salvation Army disaster response team.
The Salvation Army EDS program provides physical, emotional, and spiritual comfort in times of disaster. Once trained, volunteers and staff assist victims and first responders in emergencies by providing food, hydration, clothing, shelter, financial resources, and counseling as needed.
The July training will include an introduction to Salvation Army disaster response, mobile kitchen operation, incident command structure, and emotional and spiritual care classes. Interested parties should contact The Salvation Army to reserve their seat at the training session.
Graduates of previous Chattanooga Salvation Army training sessions have served countless victims of natural disasters including those affected by Hurricane Ike, Hurricane Gustav, Chattanooga's September floods, and the recent Nashville floods.
