According to a 2010 Ochs Center for Metropolitan Studies report, 20% of Tennesseans live in households that are experiencing "food insecurity." Currently 38,000 Chattanooga families live below the poverty level. The Chattanooga Salvation Army is working aggressively to ensure that low income families within the Metropolitan area can have nutritious meals to share together.
To help tackle this growing need in Chattanooga, The Salvation Army along with local Walmart's will band together to "Can Hunger." Three area Walmart's will host food drives during the month of March from 10 am - 6 pm. For our first annual "Let's Can Hunger" campaign, our goal is to collect 5,000 pounds of non-perishable food during the month of March, and we need YOUR help!
We are in need of the following items:
- Hearty Soups
- Canned Fruits/Vegetables/Meat
- Peanut Butter
- Pasta & Sauce
- Rice & Beans
- Bisquick & Muffin Mix
- Sugar, Cornmeal, Flour, & Cooking Oil
- Snacks, Little Debbies, & Crackers
- Cereal & Oatmeal
- Canned or Powered Milk
- Hamburger/Tuna Helper
- Diapers
