Even before fears of global warming, Tennessee summers were usually 'scorchers.' That's why The Salvation Army in Chattanooga started its annual "Beat the Heat" campaign.
It's the poor who usually feel the heat the most—in more ways than one. High electric bills and increased food costs put an unavoidable burden on needy families. Many of them depend on The Salvation Army to help them make ends meet.
