The Salvation Army’s Echelon Chapter to Host Men’s Health Event for the Homeless
Chattanooga, TN - On Saturday, April 12th, from 12 p.m. - 1 p.m., The Salvation Army of Chattanooga’s Echelon Chapter, a community of young professionals, will be hosting an event for the homeless men in our area. The event, titled Bacon and Boxers, will be a bacon-themed lunch and health outreach aimed at providing our homeless male neighbors with underwear and socks, which are two of the most in demand, but least donated items.
"Fresh underwear and socks are two basic necessities that we want to ensure our homeless neighbors have access to," said Alissa Miller, Echelon Service Co-Chair. "The local community has been generous with donations of items for this event, and we are excited that our chapter, along with our partners in the community, will be able to play a role in meeting this need."
The members of Echelon make it their mission to support, fundraise, and help communicate the needs of The Salvation Army in order to aid those experiencing homelessness. Donations of men’s undergarments and socks are still needed in order to make this event a success! Anyone who would like to contribute to this cause can visit The Salvation Army Chattanooga’s Amazon Wishlist or deliver items to 822 McCallie Ave.
"We may overlook the importance of underwear, but the men of our homeless community would love the luxury," said Lt. James Harvin, officer of the 614 Corps and Day Shelter on McCallie Avenue. "We would like to invite the community to come along side The Salvation Army in this endeavor to bless our transient neighbors with boxers, socks, and other health necessities."
